Since 1964 the Flanders Festival Bruges organizes every year the famous International Contests "Musica Antiqua". They are open to young, highly qualified performers from all over the world, who specialize in the historically informed performance practice.
The purpose is not to stress the element of competition but rather to stimulate the highest level of execution. We are confronting young performers with their peers, with their masters and with the public.
Starting in 2008, MAfestival offers the winner(s) besides a cheque, a concert as part of the next MAfestival and a number of concerts in close collaboration with important international organisations.
For 2010, harpsichord and pianoforte were on the program. Winner of the pianoforte contest is Petra Somlai. Kazuya Gunji and Maxim Emelyanychev share a second prize for pianoforte.
In 2011, the competition for traverso, baroque violin, baroque cello and viola da gamba takes place between 1st and 14th of August. More information about the jury and programme will be published beginning of October.
