Jean Petit Ensemble & Sterre Decru
Marais, Jacquet de La Guerre & Francesco Cavalli
Imagine yourself in the Versailles of the 17th and 18th centuries. Bruges mezzo-soprano Sterre Decru and her Jean Petit Ensemble, who featured last year in Virtuoos – Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS’s career boosting programme for talented young classical musicians – bring French court life to Lissewege. Although grandeur played a major role during that period, the music of the time is also imbued with humanity and emotionality. Opéra-ballets and tragédies lyriques tell the stories of various mythical figures and their concerns. The more intimate court arias deal at length with themes such as love and loss.
With music by:
Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665 – 1729)
Marin Marais (1656 – 1728)
Francesco Cavalli (1602 – 1676)
Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643 – 1704)
Henri Desmarets (1661 – 1741)
