Nel Maertens & Ronan Kernoa
Bach Suites among the flowers
Surrounded by the flower meadow of visual artist Nel Maertens’ Sowing and Reaping, Ronan Kernoa presents several Bach suites. Moreover, he performs them alternately on three instruments: two different violas da gamba and a cello. During his performance, you can stroll around Bruges’ City Halls, transformed by Maertens into a springtime scene, created live for the MA Festival by hand-strewing a mixture of pigment and wheat flour. Nel Maertens draws her inspiration for this from the history of Bruges. She is fascinated by the miniatures and decorative borders in the mediaeval books of hours that feature in many of the paintings by the Flemish Primitives.
