The Bruges inclusion choirs Cantare Continua and Cantare con Amore are choirs for people with dementia, their carers and volunteers on the one hand and for people with and without disabilities on the other, but above all, they are for people with a heart for singing and for each other.
The inclusion choirs were founded by Elke Poppe. Every two weeks, members meet to rehearse a repertoire of Dutch-language works, world songs, theme songs and inclusion works for choirs. The choir is open to everyone who wants to sing, people with and without disabilities, young and old. Children, young people, family and friends are also invited to sing along and participate in social activities.
Cantare con Amore and Cantare Continua are projects by Speling vzw, an inclusive association where everyone is welcome and can participate in the offerings. A passionate group of professional volunteers is steadily making progress, a road where one and one is more than two. Through their inclusive projects, they bring people from various corners of society together. Their goal is to focus on the talents and strengths of the participants. This is how they implement the emancipatory idea in their approach, guidance and activities.
Singing goes further: it brings people together, creates connection and opens up a new form of communication. Singing remains: It touches, moves, lives on in our collective and personal memory, evokes memories and brings emotions to life. Dementia, physical or mental disabilities don't stop us from singing.
