Jean Rondeau
Louis Couperin
Winner of MA competition 2012 Jean Rondeau is internationally acclaimed for his combination of a profound respect for the past with boundary-pushing programming. As remarked by Gramophone, Rondeau teaches us “what a flexible and expressive medium the harpsichord can be – perhaps more than any of us had realised before”. Rondeau’s latest project – the complete works of Louis Couperin – is, in the artist’s words “one of the most important of my life”. Having started his harpsichord studies at the age of six with an unmeasured prelude by Louis Couperin, Rondeau praises the composer’s ability to make the instrument “sing and vibrate like no one before him and probably no one after him either.”
